The Ministry of Industry & Trade has as its missions to conceive, to organise, programme and to ensure the execution of the policy of government and the State within the framework of Industry and Commerce.

For this reason, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce is in charge :

• of defining, in conjunction with the other ministries concerned and under its jurisdictions, the industrial policy and commercial activities of government ;
• contributing to the continuous amelioration of the regulated environment, institutional and economy of the enterprises and investment within the industrial framework, of commerce and the services, in conjunction with the other ministries concerned ;
• ensuring the development of commercial exchanges with the external bodies ;
• to ensure the follow-up of the industrial enterprises and private sectors or put in place the management and supervision of the contractual obligations supporting especially under-utilisation of first local materials and the realisation of new investments in collaboration with the national structure in charge of operations of indigenisation ;
• contributing to the adoption of a favourable fiscal policy for the development of the commercial and industrial enterprises ;
• ensuring representation and protection of the interest of Benin Republic in respect of various international bodies in the field of commerce and industry ;
• arousing, defining and ensuring the proper operation of the various mechanisms in concert and collaboration with the others concerned with the promotion and and activation of the industrial and commercial sectors ;
• emphasising the development of the private industrial and commercial sectors in line with the ministry in charge of development ;
• ensuring the promotion of all industrial raw material transformation activities – crude or semi-processed – local or imported particularly the activities of transforming raw materials of agricultural nature, mining and construction materials, such that their commercialisation in collaboration with the other ministries concerned ;
• encourage the growth and the development of national enterprises to the regional and international markets and to follow-up on their evolution ;
• contribute in the elimination of bureaucratic barriers, technical and logistic that could impede the development of the industrial and commercial enterprises ;
• to sustain and accompany the industrial and commercial enterprises in the financial research or in negotiating at the level of national and international plan ;
• to support the activities of promoting Small and Medium Scale Industries (SMSI) ;
• to promote the enterpreneural development within the areas of Commerce and Industry ;
• to promote the use of production capacities which are under-used till now ;
• to contribute to the elimination of political and regulatory obstacles that can block the local efforts within the areas of commerce and industry

• to contribute and ensure the compliance of the policies which are launched in other sectors with those concerning the Ministry of Industry and Commerce ;
• to contribute to the definition and laying down of a national policy of regional integration ;
• to contribute to the decision making by the government in the scope of promotion of Beninese products abroad ;
